Just be sure to use high-end super steel fibers (I had a 136 one). I haven't managed to find cave hopper leather with a quality over 36, so 40 sounds good. I did this to push my main 3 crafting skills (mechanics, tailoring and electronics) past 100 so I was able to craft the top tier items with the bonus from crafting benches in my house. Make no mistake though, this build is VERY powerful, since lvl 14 I've been killing enemies practically without taking any damage.Įdit: if you're gonna go heavy in crafting it might be worth putting 1 attribute point into INT instead of PER because you'll save more skill points that way. Your main line of defense is smart trap placement and los abuse. I've also started pumping evasion now that I've got the last 4 levels ahead of me (should be able to max it out) but it's not crucial, it's very hit and miss (hurrr) actually. Bear traps on the other hand require 1 item, optionally 2 if you want to coat them in poison. Not to mention that hunting down the components is time consuming and annoying seeing how you need up to 5 for some. Even at 180 (with pack rathound) I probably wouldn't take them. Maybe I'd add that I found chemistry to be largely useless, mostly because I stuck with bear traps for the most part - other traps weigh 2 kilos each and that's just too much on a build with 130 carrying capacity. Chest slot is sturdy vest with black cloth and laminated fabric ballistic panel but I'll replace this with infused cavehopper leather - what's the highest reasonable quality for basic hopper leather, 40ish?) + soft padding + black cloth.Įverything else Zetor said pretty much mirrors my own thoughts on crossbows. Re armor - I'm using NVG goggles with +15% chance to crit, very useful if you're in a low visibility place because your accuracy will drop a lot without it. You can force it by setting the enemy on fire (assuming you're both in the dark) but it's very unreliable. I'm about to enter DC and I've seen it proc maybe 10 times total. I would definitely drop Ambush (get Pack Rat instead). But really anything with an accuracy scope and pneumatics works. After getting Critical Power, you should be one-shotting enemies with your crits easily.įor a secondary crossbow, I like a pneumatic Cyclon (craft-only) with a precision scope to have a low-AP alternative or a more reliable way of sticking crowd control on enemies (tranq bolts, crawler bolts, etc). This build relies on big crits (and the ability to force them via aimed shot, ambush and traps), so you want those crits to be even bigger. I think the best overall crossbow is Zephyr with an anatomically-aware scope and super string. Building Biology up to 55ish relatively early is also a good idea, so you can extract acid and crawler poison easily (they're some of the best base material for special bolts and bear traps). Otherwise, you need to travel light and just not pick up stuff that's not relevant + make regular trips to your home base to drop off valuable crafting materials. I'd actually defer one of the less-critical feats (maybe Ambush or Elemental Bolts) in favor of Pack Rathound.
